In This Episode
Canada and its relationship with China is the subject of the first episode of the Western Voice for 2021. Guest Shuvaloy Majumdar is a Munk Senior Fellow with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute with an expertise in foreign policy. Majumdar recently co-wrote an article with Brett Byers entitled “If Australia can shun China, Canada should too”. With decades of self-serving actions from China at the expense of the West, some nations are pushing back. Mujumdar holds up Australia as an example of a nation which while being very integrated with China through trade, they have been able to successfully stand up for themselves against weaponized economics from the Chinese Communist Party. Shuvaloy explains how we can all benefit if Canada begins to show some backbone when dealing with China as the nation's actions put our national security at risk. Alternative markets exist and we need not continue to use kid gloves with the CCP. It was a fantastic and productive discussion. The only real question left hanging was, why is Ottawa still so resistant in standing up to China?
